This project of Contemporary Arts Center aims to fulfill the necessity of such an architectural space, where it could be possible to create an aesthetic environment and form a person of full value.
The questions of art accessibility to the wide consumer and the transformation of cultural leisure into the life’s natural flow take very important place. So the presence of such an environment where the communications would take place on the creative level is very important.
Today the “art’s life” requires new experiences, development of conceptual art, involvement of media technologies, search and widening of the new ways and genres.  As a result new, synthetic arts are being formed.
As nowadays the cultural life is diverse and unstable, the need of having the whole variety of Art Centers is very acute.

The project was designed for Yerevan,  Armenia, at the intersection of Khorerdarani and Khorenatsi streets. A hotel, built in 1935, used to stand in that place, which was partly demolished in 2004. The block that was left on Khorerdarani street became the base for further project development. Considering this block as an architectural and historical layer of mid 1930’s its was decided to connect the project with it, keeping the outter appearance and giving new function to it. Thus an interesting time and style synthesis is formed.
The Art Center is situated parallel to the streets preserving the perimeteral development of the block. The intersection of two streets is stressed by a diagonal axis. Two dominating volumes are situated on this axis: the auditorium and the cinema hall, hosting 300 and 400 people respectively. These two volumes are tied to each other with a terrace, which serves as an open public gallery both on the lower and upper levels.
The composition can be divided into two parts by diagonal, represented with two galleries.
One of the galleries is located on Khorerdarani str. and is lit from both sides by daylight. From the right end it sticks to the hotel building. The openings of the windows are sized and shaped identically to the old hotel’s openings for the sake of visual connection. The gallery is followed up with an evacuation staircase, which is placed in a separate volume made of reinforced glass. From the north side building has a second facade which provides the gallery with natural ventilation.
The second gallery, located from the side of Khorenatsi str., is designated for experimental art. Building has a thematic interior, made of prebuilt elements, which are being adopted to installations’ topic creating specific relevant background.
As mentioned above the block from the hotel is kept. It is remade into a cultural and educational center. The center will include workshops, studios and auditoriums for lections. As the drawing studios need special illumination without direct sun rays, these studios are situated in the northern part of the block.
The underground level includes storages for the galleries and a two storied parking.
