PUBLIC SPACE FOR SAN MARINO

Project of the public space in San Marino covers the territory from Cava Antica until Cava degli Umbri which are occupied by above-ground parking. The area in-between is covered with sport facilities. The requirements for the place include the creation of an underground parking under Cava degli Umbri and facilities for different events in Cava Antica.
The proposal project of the public space is connected with the context of San Marino, pointing out the important places of encounter and connecting them with the new created ones. All the area is covered with the grid of the same elements with random density. In different cases the elements are represented by the lighting system, benches, trees or holes in the ground.

Cava Antica is located in front of the entrance towards the historical city and on the way towards the three famous towers of San Marino. Daily it serves a big amount of people.  It was thought to create a flexible space related to the flows of people and make their involvement an important feature of the place. 
Thus, the area of the quarry is covered with the seats which serve as flexible elements that can be moved by people from one place to another involving them in common activities. In the middle part is the area of the stage, covered with holes for seats as well. Thus, all the space can become a stage for public activities and the organization of space is regulated by people.

Cava degli Umbri is another quarry which has interesting viewpoints on the lower parts of San Marino. With the placement of the underground parking, the area above is covered with slightly slanted roof. It serves as the terrace which ends with the elevators making connection with the cafeteria and parking below. Hiding behind the roof is located a tennis court.
The passage which connects the two quarries and involves the old entrance from Cava Antica  is pointed with light columns and vegetation.
