Una ripresa del termine e della sua peculiarità si diffonde in Gran Bretagna ( new brutalism) nel corso degli anni 1960 e 1970. Precursori e teorici di quest’ultima tendenza sono A. e P. Smithson (scuola superiore di Hunstanton 1951-54), orientati, oltre che a una rivalutazione delle istanze funzionali e strutturali, a conferire nuovi significati formali ai materiali, deliberatamente esibiti." Un viaggio descritto col tentativo di rappresentare il cosiddetto "nonluogo", dove le relazioni cessano di esistere perché inutili all'accrescimento personale emotivo dell'individuo inteso come unico testimone della propria relazione con ciò che lo circonda. Spazi in cui la condizione normale è quella di vivere immersi nella propria solitudine, in questo caso il cemento, il freddo, il grigio, l'assenza di colore aiutano a riconoscersi nel proprio stato di apparente smarrimento indotto da quella necessità morbosa di considerarsi parte di un insieme a cui non ci si sente di appartenere. Il brutalismo architettonico serve così ad esplicare visivamente un'armonia tra il fondersi dell'estetica di un paesaggio, a questa fredda e spigolosa condizione umana che segue le geometrie di una società apatica ed indifferente.

A journey described with the attempt to represent the so-called "non-place", where relationships cease to exist because they are useless to the personal emotional growth of the individual understood as the sole witness of their relationship with their surroundings. Spaces in which the normal condition is that of living immersed in one's own solitude, in this case the cement, the cold, the gray, the absence of color help to recognize oneself in its state of apparent loss induced by that morbid necessity to consider itself a part of a set that one does not feel like belonging to. Architectural brutalism thus serves to visually expose a harmony between the merging of the aesthetics of a landscape, to this cold and angular human condition that follows the geometries of an apathetic and indifferent society.
