在《2001太空漫游》中，对未来2001的畅想，人类已经在太空中建立起壮丽的城市，在月球上建立起永久性的殖民地，巨大的核动力飞船已经航行到土星。然而在现实中即使到了2018年，人类科技发展，好像没有人愿意再去登上月球，更不用说征服火星，空间折叠探索更深远的宇宙空间。与此同时，信息技术却以超乎想象的速度发展，网络覆盖了整个世界，在IT所营造的越来越舒适的安乐窝中，人们对太空渐渐失去了兴趣。
