UCD Confucius - Signage Design
This was a project for the new Confucius building in the University College of Dublin (UCD). This building is part of a Chinese program which allows Chinese students to study in UCD, meaning that Chinese text would have to be present on the signage alongside the Irish, the English and the braille. This created a challenging juggling act of text heights and locations, while also following the Irish constitution for signage. I also had to incorporate an existing colour coding system into the directories to help the users identify their way around the building.
The end result was a sleek dark grey design with a black header panel, allowing for the pure white text and the colour coded tabs & maps to pop off the panel. I printed these signs using our Roland UV printer which allowed me to emboss (raise off the sign) the map outlines and text, aswell as the braille which has to be embossed. This gave it a very sleek but subtle 3D effect, while most importantly allowing the signage to serve its function of wayfinding.
Thanks for Viewing!
