Disbanded
Work 1

20" x 14"
• Rhino & Oxpeckers
• Completed July 2018
• Graphite Pencil (Staedtler) and Charcoal on Strathmore Mixed Media White Paper

The inspiration behind this piece derived from the viewing of an elephant piece made by Derek C. Wicks.  With this piece, I wanted to experiment with a blurred background and finer detail one the Rhino and Oxpeckers. The splitting horn represent change with the wrinkles suggesting wisdom and birds providing support.

Power
Work 2

• 6" x 11"
• Close Up on Joe Rogan
• Completed May 2018
• Graphite Pencil (Staedtler) and B/W Coloured Pencils (Prisma Color) on Strathmore Mixed Media Grey Tone Paper

For this piece I wanted to experiment on toned paper, I used a stippling technique to mimic the skin texture in a slightly abstract way.  The play with light and dark is suggestive of chiaroscuro but expressed in a more impressionist manner.

Statue of Liberty, Reimagined

Work 3

• 19" x 24"
• Woman & Cityscape
• Completed May 2018
• Graphite Pencil (Staedtler) on Strathmore Mixed Media White Paper

The inspiration behind this piece derived from the beautiful city of Dubai and their skyscrapers.  I tried to fuse architecture and a portrait in one piece, with the tallest point acting as an earring and a tirra on the woman to continue the architectural language being used.

A Landscape From Memory

Work 4

• 12" x 18"
• British Columbian Landscape
• Completed October 2017
• Graphite Pencil (Staedtler) and on Strathmore Bristol White Paper

For this piece I wanted to clearly illustrate multiple layers of foreground, midground and background to suggest depth to the artwork.  Also, I wanted to make a piece that was a landscape study.

Cranium Study

Work 5

• 8" x 11"
• Human Skull
• Completed August 2017
• Graphite Pencil (Staedtler) on Strathmore Mixed Media White Tone Paper

The inspiration behind this piece derived from the observing a human anatomy textbook focusing on the skull. I wanted to move the eye around the skull with the constant change of light and shadow and adding in tertiary features like the bottom teeth and horns for dramatic flare.
