Art Deco typography
We were invited to create some bespoke typography for a group of local poets who had been making work about the Lido in Peterborough. The Lido is a striking Art Deco building and we wanted to honour its design heritage by using a combination of three different styles of type appropriate to the architecture of the building. The type is decorative so that it can be enjoyed by all visitors, whatever their age, nationality or level of literacy. In order to ensure a high-quality finish and move
quickly, we created type stencils that retained their counters. When laser-cutting a letter d, for example, the counter (or round shape) within the letter would usually fall out. The styles we selected are elegant solutions to this problem.
