Visualising Rory McIlroy's win at Bay Hill, March 2018

Following on from the Tommy Fleetwood poster, this next poster in the series visualises Rory McIlroy's awe-inspiring win at The Arnold Palmer invitational in March 2018. Collaborating with the team at the 15th Club, we have visualised every shot Rory hit during all four rounds at Bay Hill, this time including shot distances for tee shots and approach shots, as well as distances to the hole. Rory McIlroy's 'Leave' percentages are again represented, illustrating how accurate his approach shots were from outside 100 yards into the greens, along with his overall ‘Strokes Gained’ stats for the tournament.

Rory McIlroy shot a bogey-free, 8-under 64 in the final round on Sunday to claim his 14th PGA Tour victory. He now joins Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as the only players in the modern era to win 14 or more times by age 30.

All shot data was manually entered into a spreadsheet from the shot tracker on www.pgatour.com, validated by the team at the 15th Club then prepared in Tableau. The Strokes Gained stats were also calculated by the 15th Club.

For more information on Strokes Gained then please read Mark Broadie’s brilliant book ‘Every Shot Counts’: www.everyshotcounts.com

Thanks again to the amazing team at the 15th Club for collaborating on this project.

More posters to follow!
