Martin 38

Martin No.38 was conferred "Building of the Year" a the SIA design Awards 2012. Situated on the site of a former warehouse in the old godown district of Singapore.

Expect the unexpected with walls that move and kitchens that disappear in Martin No.38. It takes great skill and painstaking craftsmanship to replicate a raw off-form concrete look than to produce finished concrete walls.

"Simplicity, carried to an extreme, becomes elegance." John Franklin

Inspired by renowned architect Kerry Hill's original austere industrial aestheticism, this 1,130 SQFT studio apartment fuses the beauty of raw concrete and natural timbre, juxtaposing it against a backdrop of polished glass, refined fixtures and contemporary furniture.

Clean lines and moving walls define a fluid, ever-changing space, permitting the freedom of unbounded possibilities.Tinted glass changes opacity along with the condition of the natural light that fills the apartment. In the day, the tinted glass acts as a reflective surface that, when coupled with mirrors, creates an infinity effect that amplifies the spatial quality. Come nightfall, the interior lights up, revealing the apartment in its entirety. A sense of subtle visual interest changes the perfection of an otherwise harsh, industrial interior.
