Get Set Festival 2012 - Digital Branding

Typography

As a project of the post-graduation in Motion Design study plan, we were responsible for making all of the digital material, under the theme "Decadent Beauty", for the Get Set Festival 2012 at Cinema Trindade, Oporto.
After a quick pitch my group was selected to make the opening titles, lower thirds and digital logo, which involved creating a lettering inspired in the typical wrought iron balconies of the Almada Street's buildings.

Official Logo
The official logo created for the festival illustrates a fragment of a wrought iron balcony of the Almada Street, but instead of the typical forged ornaments, it features the festivals tittle written with lettering generated from the same source.

Alphabet (with letter variations)
The letters embody diferent shapes and patterns present on the ornaments of the iron balconies, most of them were created from a sinle piece of ornament, but a few are a combination of two or three distinct pieces. For the sake of the festival theme (decadent beauty), some letters have alternate shapes and all of them preserve the textures and visual noise that pervade from the images which they came from, creating a feeling of eclecticism and consistant decadence.

Lower Thirds (sample)
This is a sample of the visual scheme used on lower thirds created for the festival speaker interviews and workshop reviews. The animation follows the concept that rough iron bars twist and bend to forge the shape of the letters. Upon the moment they appear the background video freezes and adds a layer that randomly mixes the channels of the original video creating a new hue; it also fills the image with noise and grain, to once again create a filling of decadence.
