SLANT AWARD 2012 - 4CHANGE

Slant Award 2012
Based on the generic city layout given by SLANT for their award 2012, our team 4CHANGE (Dragana Romic, Kanako Tada, Natalia Vergara and I) develop a design for the five assigned sites. The lake shore, lake promenade, Museum ground, Market and Tram square.

The generic city of change, called Sen Sakana, is located in Japan, formed at the Uoko Lake, near to chain of mountains Nichibotsu no yama. It is characterized by diverse climate throughout the year, strong origins in fishing and drastic changes in history. Fishing nets represent the crucial
historical element of the place. This concept is reflected in space with the idea of stretched nets that create tension between the city landmarks. The whole process of changes on the time line is seen as a spiral where, the man and the city are striving to return to their origins, when the first inhabitants were closely living in contact with the environment.
The overall plan links the different locations through a similar pattern created by the conceptual fish nets. The lake shore has been remodelled and to increase the value floating islands for flora and fauna were designed. The design creates harmony between nature and users.
The Tram square includes entrances for cars, the only site of the five were vehicles have access. The main design concepts follows the general one, it has elements linked to the fishery industry, the origin of the city. The blue LED crossing the square represent a large fishing net, the path cutting through the area reminds of fish scales. There are a series of steps, which represent smooth pebbles found in the local lake. The night visualisation gives a better understanding of the space and feeling. The overview perspective is one out of four, it represent part of the overall area during Autumn.
Below visualisations represent the other locations, respectively B) The market Square. C) The Museum ground. D/E) The floating island and the shore.
The last visualisation is a four seasons perspective of the overall design.
