My process for this article design was to first read the article a few times and jot down notes of words that stood out to me. I also tried to narrow the concepts down to single words. For this article, the word “tool” struck me as interesting so I started to think of “tools” or icons that could represent the different concepts in the article. 

To get the isometric effect, I watched a few tutorials and played around with the 3D Extrude and Bevel effect in Illustrator. I did all the illustrations in bright yellow to start so I could see the contrast as I added the 3D effect. 

Next I expanded the illustrations and added consistent colors to them. I also would copy each object, move it down, and add a blur to create the shadows on the page. 

I also used a isometric grid to line everything up in Illustrator before exporting and placing the illustration in InDesign. I repeated some of the objects and added new ones for the second page of the article. Overall, I really enjoyed this project and getting to learn a new illustration technique.
