Alberta premier Rachel Notley, when challenged on June 5 by UCP leader Jason Kenney to pressure Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to withdraw Bill C-48, The Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, said her government has complained to the Canadian government that “the tanker ban in its current iteration is too broad and may well limit opportunities.”

Meanwhile, Energy Minister McCuaig-Boyd, in emails with federal Transport Minister Garneau, accused the Trudeau government of breaking faith with promises late in 2017 that the moratorium would exclude diluents.

In other words, the Notley government’s only concern is imports of diluent to allow exports of highly discounted dilbit to the U.S. where 99% of Alberta’s crude oil exports already go.  She displays no interest, concern, or mention that Bill C-48 prevents Eagle Spirit's potential two million bbl/d of oil exports to new, diverse, undiscounted foreign markets.

Would that be because Eagle Spirit is a far better alternative and to support it would be to weaken the case for the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion which she clings to desperately as the only straw that might help her get re-elected?

Trans Mountain is a $20 billion debacle — $4.5 billion to buy the existing pipeline, $7.4 billion to build the twin line, and another $7.4 billion to replace the 65-year-old existing line. It’s also a bonehead proposal to export more dilbit to U.S. Puget Sound refineries by a second-rate American pipeline company that doesn’t give a rat’s ass about Canadians’ best interests — but which was smart enough to recognize a sucker when they saw one — and pulled the plug on the project when they reeled one in.

Notley, who has NEVER publicaly mentioned Eagle Spirit, is not a friend of Alberta — all she wants is re-election at any cost — while  Trudeau “We can’t shut down the oil sands tomorrow, we need to phase them out” is certainly no friend of Alberta either

Remember that on provincial election day on/before May 31, 2019 and on federal election day on/before October 22, 2019.
