Stop motion collaboration

A series of stop motion animations in collaboration with Josh Grubbs Photography.

The first bright idea was to have a lightbulb descending from off-screen, screwed into a socket, and finally burn out. Initial sketches and a rough storyboard was drawn up to convey the idea and make sure we were all on the same page.
All the bits and bobs needed for each frame of the animation were then made out of paper.
Below are some behind-the-scenes snapshots taken at Josh's studio.
The second stop motion idea - a dandelion swaying in the wind - sounded simple, but when it came time to execute, the process was more complex than anticipated.
Making the dandelion seeds out of paper was easy enough, but each individual seed had to then connect to the central stem but still be able move independently. So using glue was out of the question. Delicate small wire clips were custom made to hook the "parachutes" to the seed head from the underside, hidden from view, thus allowing the dandelion to move as a whole in the wind, but also allowing each "parachute" to be unhooked to fly away.
The final stop motion animation was based on our shared love of ramen. Each component was handcrafted out of paper.
