BRIEF
Juxtapose two conceptually opposing ideas or personas to create an intersection of concept and imagery in the form of a zine. Create a system of original imagery unique to the concept. Develop the zine as a brand with associated applications.
CONCEPT
In dreams our mind is not constrained by conventions of space or time. Maya Deren was a visionary film maker in the 1940’s whose films diverged from the straight narrative and captured the essence of what dreams feel like.
Buckminster Fuller who is most well-known for inventing the geodesic dome is the counterpoint to Maya Deren. Like Deren he was a visionary. This is a man who never settled for the norm. His mind was not constrained by convention.
The theory of relativity questions our understanding of time. Rather than time being a constant it varies relative to speed and gravity. The concept of spacetime is radical and visionary just as Fuller’s and Deren’s ideas were.
The imagery I created blends the perspectives of both of these visionaries through one lens.
