My mother broke down when telling me that she had been diagnosed with cancer. She has always tried to upkeep her appearance of a strong and tough woman, as mothers in Latin America usually do. However, this time I saw her being vulnerable, I saw her scared. She told me not to tell my little sister, as she didn't want her to feel sad or scared for her.

This is a sculpture of my mother, which ressembles statues of powerful Greek goddesses. However, this sculpture is entirely made out of paper (newspaper, towel paper, butter paper, cardboard), juxtaposing the strength of her stance, with the fragility of the materials. On her forehead there is a hole that looks into a shadowbox. The shadowbox represents my mother being scared, with a basic representation of a little girl being lost and scared while being chased by monsters in an enchanted forest.

This project's title means "Strength" in Spanish.
