Assignment Two : Station Idents
For this assignment we are required to create five different station idents for a particular television channel or network of our choice. Extensive background research on the selected television channel or network are the crucial phase that needs to be done before proceeding with the next phase; editing and animating. This is because station ident is a distinctive flagship animation of the station’s a network’s logo hence why we can’t just do it however we like or how we want it to be as there are multiple things we need to follow if we were to create something from someone else’s art or identity.
In this assignment, I have decided to animate station ident for a network called Food Network. Food Network is an American basic cable and satellite television channel that is owned by Television Food Network, G.P., a joint venture and general partnership between Discovery Inc. (which owns 70% of the network) and the Tribune Company (which owns the remaining 30%). Despite this ownership structure, the channel is managed as a division of Discovery Networks. The channel airs both specials and regular episodic programs about food and cooking.
Food Network had the same iconic logo since 1997. Until now. Then, after the brand’s 20th anniversary, Food Network launched a brand-new logo but only small changes have been made to the familiar plate-shaped logo. You'll soon see the logo integrated into FoodNetwork.com and Food Network Magazine, too. Being someone who loves to eat and enjoy good food, I’d love to create animations for the station so this is why I have chosen the Food Network.
