Lamborghini | Smart Speaker & Gaming Controller

Inspired and influenced by:
 Aventador, Huracan performante, Centenario and Elemento



The project began with a vague brief to design a smart speaker concept along the visual language of an existing brand. And Lamborghini was the first brand that came to mind. Their strong design language, an exciting philosophy behind their products  and a lifelong admiration made it an inevitable choice.

"Ferruccio Lamborghini had devised a simple yet effective method to immediately realize the impact that his cars had: while driving, he used to pay careful attention to people at the sides of the road. If they did not turn around in astonishment, the car's style was simply not attractive enough.
Lamborghini's cars were conceived to thrill not only the drivers, but also the people around as they went past.
"


Two primary challenges were faced during the creation of the product. Purpose and form. 

From the onset, it was decided that the smart speaker will be designed for a space that does not involve a car (later suffered because of this decision) and it will maintain exclusivity by functioning in a field that hasn't been explored by the existing smart speakers such as Google Home, Amazon Echo or the Homepod. And this lead to the smart speaker merging with a Gaming controller.

The difficulty with form arose because the semantics and functions of controller had to be kept in mind while merging it with language of Lamborghini smart speaker. It had to fulfill the needs of a high end smart speaker and also be able to meet the demands of a professional gaming controller. One could not be compromised for another.


Process


Design Brief

To design a smart speaker that goes along with the philosophy and brand language of Lamborghini. The form of the speaker will be eye-catching and exciting with a focus on performance. The features will maintain the exclusiveness of the brand without it becoming similar to the commonly available smart speakers in the market.
The target audience are automobile and audio enthusiasts of high income class, with age varying between 16 - 30. Thus areas such as gaming or traveling will be looked at for product function  and placement.

Numerous model were made as part of form iteration. 3D models allowed for greater visualization and communication than sketches.
