Mapping Memory
For this project, we had to sit doing nothing for an entire hour, and then spend an hour creating something to depict our memories of the experience. For mine, I sat in my parent's bedroom, since that was the only place in the house I was likely to get any quiet. I started out thinking about the fireplace, since I was looking at it, then my dog, Popcorn, started barking, and I hadn't realized she was in the room, so I started to think about her. Then I began thinking about my pet bird, Rey, because my mind was on my pets. And then I fell asleep, and I couldn't remember what I dreamed about.
Sound
We had to create a work using sound for this project. The first sound file I used in mine is meant to feel creepy and ominous, which is set to contrast to the simple sound in the second one. The sound in the first one was made by stretching the sound in the second one and adding a drone noise as an undertone. The sound is actually my bird making happy chirping sounds.
Giving Life to an Inanimate Object
For this project we had to give an inanimate object a personality, so I chose to use my headphones. I thought about how they must be very frustrated that I listen to the same songs all the time, with hardly any variety, so I exaggerated that in this video by having them be angry at me for only listening to one song over and over.
Impossible Project
In this project, we had to come up with an idea for a project that would be impossible for us to do for one reason or another, so I came up with the idea of building a giant mechanical dragon sculpture on the Empire State Building. The dragon would be made of precious metals and gems, and would be able to move it's head, tail, and wings, and it would be able to breathe real fire. It would have to meanings attached to it, the first, obvious one would be the combination of modern and fantasy, and the second one would be to symbolize corruption in the stock market. The dragon's head would move up and down according to how the stock market was doing, and it would breath fire every time something corrupt happened in it.
Final
For this project, I had to use one of the themes I used for the Impossible Project, but I wasn't allowed to use any of the elements found in it (so no dragons or cities). I decided to use the theme of corruption for this one. I thought "What if something corrupt happens every six seconds", so I decided to put something symbolic of corruption every six seconds in the video, but only a brief flash of it, and the rest of the video would be filled with pleasant and happy looking stock images.
