Blood, Milk & Honey

I feel red like blood,
White milk & golden honey;
Give me your money.

Standing as a metaphor for a better life, "milk & honey" is a biblical reference with a promise. The philosophy behind these photographs is that you can't get to a better life without pain. Suffering yields milk & honey and maybe you can't get to your best life without bleeding. In every photo there is a symbol of pain and blood, along with a reference to milk & honey. Two out of the three pictures show stigmata wounds (nail through the feet, head wound across the forehead). Even though pain cannot be beautiful, maybe there is a rich future to look forward to after the red blood, one with white milk and golden honey.
Some behind the scenes
The first picture in the series was pretty straightforward, dripping honey over my arm was simple. I used red lipstick to color the edges of my nails and paint on my arm to mark the knife wound. The second shot was the hardest in terms of both execution and editing. Covering your head with gauze and putting honey under your eyes is quite difficult. The gauze wouldn't fall in the right direction above my head, the honey would drip down my face too fast, modeling and directing at the same time is quite tough, and I could've used two more pairs of hands. The hardest variable in the last shot with my legs was keeping  the nail upright and the “milk” (white paint and water) not being able to drip down towards my feet due to the angle I was sitting at.
Cleaning up was half the fun.
Probably my favorite shot (above) out of the 3 days of shooting.
