Ice Cream Bubbles

Woke up with troubles,
Before sinking I floated
With ice cream bubbles.
The goal of this project was to shoot a transparent or clear object using both a clear or white background. My first photoshoot I chose the white acrylic background and framing was the most difficult thing and it did not turn out very pretty, but it was a learning experience that made the second shoot a complete success.

That morning before class I wasn't feeling very well, but I stuck it out, showed up, and once I was in the studio it felt as if I knew exactly what to do. Something came over me, maybe it was the professional photographer inside me that knows more than I do but somehow I knew everything I needed to grab and how to set up all the materials without second guessing anything.

I put a silver reflector in between the surface and the floor, on opposite sides of the set up I placed two lights, one with blue gel, one with a pink gel pointing down at the reflector so the light bounced up towards the sphere and cone.
Although the sphere is completely clear I let the Museum Gel that was used to hold it in place show through the ball, which made the sphere a "soapy" color. At first I was meticulously avoiding the gel showing but it ultimately worked for the shot.
I put suds on the surface around the cone and sphere, then I had someone blow bubbles while I pressed the shutter. We tried about four times before getting some really good shots with bubbles floating around the cone. Even though I considered making the image a composite, I decided one shot stood out above the rest and there was no need to add any more bubbles.
