Concept Statement: As words are written, the emotions and colors are extracted and evolve into space. The colors and movement generated from just a few words convey the formation of a story through abstract, naturalistic imagery.
This project was an extremely fun one to work on. We were given a brief to create a 30 second animated piece for the 2013 Sarasota Film Festival show open in conjunction with our Motion Design major classes at Ringling College of Art and Design.
My collaborative partner, Diana Han, and I wanted to take our audience on a physical and psychological journey through the writing process of film. Using original watercolor assets, the visuals are animated to convey a change of mood and progression through a story. Most every story contains a beginning, rising action, climax, and resolution. This rollercoaster of tension in a plotline is something we really played with here. Both visually and audibly, we tell the ever-changing story of Tom in Ideation.
See above to watch our final piece, and take a look at some of our process and stills after the jump.
