Various parts of my artwork used in BORN's We Don't Care music video.
This is my submission for the #MakeitBORNS x Adobe contest. It is one of the top 30 submissions This was created entirely with Photoshop. All of the images are taken by me and of course edited on Photoshop. I drew the rest with my Wacom Tablet. I loved working on this. Inspiration:
Blue Madonna is an idealized and virtuous woman. She is real, yet she isn’t. She is uncontrollable because of how devilishly energetic she is. She’s the kind of person to dance around your head when you’re madly in love. When I listened to other songs in Blue Madonna, I got the sense of a lust for unattainability. So in,“We Don’t Care”, I interpreted it as about a dance with mortality. .

In my landscape, I drew what I thought Blue Madonna would look like if she was dancing in the subconscious mind. Surrealists tried to tap into the inner subconscious by drawing landscapes that look like they could exist but couldn’t at the same time. So I wanted to make a landscape that tries to do the same thing as Surrealism does. A couple of other lyrics really contributed to the overall mood of this painting. Madonna is “more than just a dove”, “moving like everyone’s watching”, in a “daredevil halo” made of “fire”. These are what contributed to the overall composition and form of her figure. .

On another note, Madonna’s are icons for the Virgin Mary in Renaissance paintings so I painted my Blue Madonna in a style inspired from the 16th century but in my own twist. Also, there was a Dancing Plague (1518) in which, primarily women danced to their deaths because they couldn’t stop. I actually enjoy how that fits into the narrative of this painting!
