Pivot Project - Final Major Project - Electrolux Launderette

Project: PIVOT Project - Electrolux Launderette

The Brief: The design came about when I was looking for problems in design for my final major project, the reason I chose to design a new launderette was that it worked well with the fact that the residents could have more space in their small homes and there would be that sense of community.

My idea was initially to design a new modern launderette

I completed a task analysis on washing machines and tumble dryers in the home and launderettes, and made my designs relate to what I found out.

It was proposed that I take the machine out of the flat altogether and re invent the launderette. As we all know the launderette is not a favoured as it used to be, so this was a challenge to make it modern, fresh and inviting.

The launderette was made to be located underneath the block of flats/apartments where normally there would be a space for a local shop/supermarket, but these spaces are often derelict, so with the launderette in its place it would be a great way to use the space, utlising the off the street customers, as well as the residents of the building.

I used Google Sketch Up, a 3D software program to make the launderette based on a building in Liverpool, I then used shaderlight to render the product and then put it into Photoshop.

Electrolux Launderette was chosen as they are one of the biggest companies in this field and could thrive on this new concept.
