Pivot Project - Final Major Project

Project: PIVOT Project
The Brief: The design came about when I was looking for problems in design for my final major project, the reason I chose to design a new washer dryer was that they seemed like they were forgotten when everything else was getting redesigned within the home etc.
My idea was initially to design a smaller compact appliance for homeowners who lived in smaller flats/apartments and for whom it was harder to have both appliances such as a washer and a tumble dryer.
I did alot of research in to how people live in different circumstances, I completed a task analysis on washing machines and tumble dryers in the home and launderettes, and made my designs relate to what I found out, but also I made my designs work ergonomically.
My final design took on a different level, it was proposed that I take the machine out of the flat altogether and re invent the launderette. As we all know the launderette is not a favoured as it used to be, so this was a challenge to make it modern, fresh and inviting.
The launderette was made to be located underneath the block of flats/apartments where normally there would be a space for a local shop/supermarket, but these spaces are often derelict, so with the launderette in its place it would be a great way to use the space, utlising the off the street customers, as well as the residents of the building.
I used Rhino, a 3D software program to make my machine, I used flamingo to render the product and then put it into Photoshop.
The name PIVOT was chosen as the product was focused on the ergonomic aspect.
