The brief was concentrated on Gender Equality. I decided to concentrate on this idea that society has automatically decided what jobs both a man and woman can and cannot do. In addition to this at this young age, were already introduced to all of these stereotypes were now our brain is almost imprinted with this idea that for example “fireMAN” or “policeMAN”. Throughout my research I realised that when we were young, there were no limitations to what we want to become. 

This is why I decided to head back to my old secondary school and find out their responses according to a drawing activity that I created to find out exactly what 15-17year old children of mixed gender thought about what the ideal ‘footballer’ looks like and what a man/woman looks like. This activity was rather helpful and after analysing over 150 physical responses it was clear to see that there was a strong response when it comes to the set out stereotypes.

Condensing my research it was clear that the stereotype was there and in order to convey my message I would need to do some research into the best method in showcasing this. I decided to base the poster on LEGO focusing on the fact that the face is rather unisex and this idea that you can mount and dismount pieces according to what you like. I looked into various different roles that were set as stereotypical for both men and woman and recreated a LEGO version of the uniform hiding any of the ‘stereotypical’ features. 

This allows the reader to almost begin to see exactly how our brain automatically stereotypes certain careers choices. All the LEGO characters are neutral and demonstrates that anyone can do a job that they are passionate to do and furthermore if you are not enjoying your job, you are able to make that change and the possibilities are endless.
