My illustration is in Mexico City, the hill at the back is called "Cerro del Chiquihuite" and the houses in front are like the ones the government builds so that people can have a place to live in for less money. I focused on the group of friends, they are heading towards their homes after an afternoon of skating together, they are small compared to the rest of the drawing but their shadows are big, this means that together they are stronger than the rest of the things in the world. I think that skating in Mexico is a way of scape and a way to feel like you have a second family that can help you get through everything that might come.
Here is the design I made for the challenge of project 1324 Boards4Better which got chosen as the winner to be produced by birdhouse skateboards to raise funds for the Tony Hawk Foundation. You can see the first sketch and the final digital illustration. It was all made through Adobe Sketch for iPad Pro.
