Wireframes
Wireframes are a great way to get a concept through your client. Below is a wireframe of layouts I did for the CulinaryHC when I use to work for them. Eventually, these wireframes turned into UX designs using Adobe XD.
The Markup
The markup is sometimes not needed when showing your ideas across. But it is a good way to figure out your design and functionality internally. Markup can also help developers figure out how they might code your new project.

The closer you can get the finish UI, the better off you will be in describing the design and functionality of your website.
