TERA : A Whale of a Discovery
Here's a bit of a back-story: Tera is a 3D fantasy-themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by Bluehole Studio. If you're a fan of MMORPG's like WOW, GuildWars 1 & 2, you will definitely love this game. Tera is pretty much like WOW or GuidlWars, in that, it has questions and answers, crafting, skills, magic - as well as, PvP action gameplay. Choose one of seven races, each with its varying skillsets. Tara is a pretty good game for the nerd / geek in all of us.
The Inspiration
This inspiration stemmed from the idea of Olivia's fear of Whales. She hate's them - with a passion. So I combined the two together coupled with a landscape from Tera the video game.
The Process
What I discovered when making this, is to make sure that the texture of subjects match the texture of the background. In this case, the Tera background was a canvas oil paint drawing, it was easy to figure out how I would style my subjects - Olivia and the Whale. Also, make sure that there are some distinctions between foreground and background. In the case of this rendering, the background is out-of-focus to the foreground, and the subjects have an added "high-pass" filter.
