The Green Atrocity

In fulfillment for Color Theory, I was requested to create a monochromatic collage that reinterpreted a period or event form world history into an Art Nouveau poster design.

Using the Art Nouveau style of Alphonse Mucha, I made a propaganda poster dealing with gun control in the 21st century; in a cool color scheme, using some nerf guns as reference for the weapon.

I used a mixture of colored cardstock and paint chips to achieve the changes in value throughout the piece. By having the main focus on a non-human creature, taking the viewer close to the uncanny valley, I added a twist on a classic Mucha advertisement for tobacco.

I decided against adding text, mostly from the limitations of having to cut it out of paper and not just drawing it freehand, and the fact that it would have distracted gravely from the main point of the piece. I also wouldn’t have been able to match the font type from the Art Nouveau period to the quality I required.
