La commune de Val de Briey (Lorraine), qui organise le festival Impression d’Architecture (et son fameux « Grand Prix du Livre d’Architecture »), nous a invité à organiser une exposition pour l’édition 2017. Avec Mathieu Zimmer, de l’agence deux degrés, nous avons opté pour un évènement festif et ludique, qui donne envie au grand public de s’intéresser à l’architecture et à l’urbanisme de sa commune.
Et pour faire festif et ludique, rien de mieux que de travailler avec dix enfants volontaires de la commune ! On a alors demandé à Apolline, Margo, Thomas, Lounis, Lætitia, Alice, Maxence, Miliau, Malo et Tiphaine (9-10 ans) de nous présenter leur commune et d’imaginer comment l’améliorer. Objectif : organiser une exposition mais surtout un événement festif, une kermesse !

Trois mois avant l'exposition-kermesse, nous sommes venu visiter la ville et travailler avec les enfants autour de petits ateliers pédagogiques et ludiques. A la fin de la semaine, nous avons travailler sur des affiches fait maison servant de bande annonce à leur future exposition. Les enfants devaient trouver une accroche évoquant leurs idées…

Three months before the exhibition-fair event, we visited the city and worked with the kids around small educative and fun workshops. At the end of the week, we worked on home-made posters which would be used as teasers for the future exhibition. The kids had to find a catcher that would match with their ideas.

Nous avons demandé aux dix enfants de travailler sur trois grandes thématiques de leur territoire : se déplacer, habiter et s’amuser. Ils devaient réfléchir sur l’existant, sur ce qu’il manquait mais aussi sur leur futur. Chaque enfant a alors imaginé un projet pour la commune et on les a aidé à le formaliser à travers des dessins ou encore des cartes mentales. Au programme : un parc d’attraction pour les personnes âgées, des voitures volantes ou une application pour se déplacer en animal géant ! etc.
Nous avons souhaité donné la parole aux enfants et laisser leur imagination parler. Pour laisser la part belle à leur idées, je n’ai fait qu’encadrer leurs projets par un graphisme coloré et ludique.

The ten kids were asked to work on three main themes regarding their territory: moving, living in and having fun. They had to think about the existing, what is missing, but also about their future. Each child then imagined a project for the commune and we helped to formalize them through drawings and mental maps. Program: a theme park for elderly, flying cars or an app to move yourself with giant animals! etc.
We wanted to give the floor to the children and let their imagination talk. To give a good place to their ideas, I only supervised their projects by colorful and funny graphics.

L’exposition-kermesse
Après avoir recueilli une multitude d’idées, de dessins, de croquis ou de cartes, nous avons travaillé la mise en valeur de leur projet lors de la grande exposition en plein air. Avec l’aide de l’architecte Julien King-George, nous avons travaillé la scénographie pour qu’elle serve de lieu de rencontre entre les différents habitants des communes. Au centre, nous avons installé un kiosque avec vue sur la commune et tous les projets. Lors de la kermesse, chaque habitant pouvait tourner autour des différents panneaux, participer aux différentes activités et redécouvrir leur ville sous un nouveau regard.

The exhibition-fair :
After collecting multiple ideas, drawings, sketches or cards, we worked on emphasizing their project during the big exhibition outdoors. With the help of the architect Julien King-George, we worked on the scenography: it must allow the various inhabitants of the communes to meet.
At the center, we installed a kiosk with a view of the commune and all the projects. During the fair, each inhabitant could turn around the different panels, participate to several activities and rediscover their city from a new perspective.
