Completed for Studio Four, Moh Kins Tsis was a comprehensive design project on a historically significant site in Calgary, Alberta. The design process involved complete site analysis, intense programming and building use studies, sustainability considerations, LEED overview, and detailed mechanical systems and structural overviews.
Moh Kins Tsis Indigenous Gathering House is a refuge that recognizes the pain of the past, celebrates the historic and cultural relationship of indigenous peoples to the land and that speaks to the importance of “place”. Informed by tradition, the Gathering House celebrates the Medicine Wheel, a focal point of traditional knowledge, storytelling, ceremony, and world view. The Medicine Wheel’s teachings composed the spaces of the project, carrying geographical, physical, emotional, elemental, and spiritual significances of the form, sustainability, and materiality. Moh Kins Tsis is an architecture for healing  / reconciliation that fosters new relationships and deeper understanding between people, generations, cultures, the land, and the city.
