The idea for this project was to create a contemporary lighting piece in soft pastel colours and using porcelain to give a less dense feel to the object. Inspiration for form came from traditional ceramic bottle kilns located in the Stoke-on-Trent area, the home of the British ceramics industry. The brass mesh was a way of incorporating an element of interest.
These pieces evolved from the bottle kiln inspiration and became canvases to test a wide range of smokey glaze colours and textures. The outcome is reminiscent of the polluted landscapes during the industrialisation of Stoke-on-Trent.
