Kayu Chocolate

Winning entry for Curtis packaging competition

For the Curtis packaging competition I’ve created a fictional brand named Kayu. Established in 1965, Kayu originated in Japan, producing luxury chocolates with unique flavours such as Matcha Green Tea Flavour or Blueberry.  In the modern age the brand has grown to the UK market, offering a different and unique luxury chocolate brand which makes for the perfect gift. The target audience for the product is high income customers,
middle class to upper class, that buy luxury products.
My process began with research into existing luxury packaging in the health & beauty and food sector. The next stage was artist and style research, compiling designs which inspired me that could later inspire my own concepts. I sketched design concepts as well as concepts for the physical packaging, and ended up choosing a cube complete with a gold foiled sleeve. The design style took inspiration from Japanese design, in its basic idea and colour scheme, and my own unique ideas. Additonally, the project indicated the packaging was to be sold during the Christmas season, so I had to take this into account too.
