"The Bidayuh in Bau area of Sarawak traditionally produced wooden figure which frequently represented good spirits and were placed at the junctions of the footpaths leading to their longhouse and farms to protect the community from misfortunes. For certain ceremonies other figures were made to represent bad spirits which were then destroyed or floated away downstream at the end of the ceremony"
