In the Spring Quarter of 2010, I worked with two other students to redesign the UC San Diego Communication Department website for our Cognitive Web Design course.
The UCSD Communication website has been a source of complaint for many students. From crappy layout to tepid color schemes, the students have complained of how their department's website was lacking in its ability to communicate; an ironic problem for the Communication Department.
Our initial step was to do a competitive analysis and compare what other competing sites were doing. We analyzed design perks and flaws to synthesize data that is necessary to create a strong prototype of the reimagined communication site. This part was fun because it felt like we were creating the ultimate communication site, taking the positive aspects of competition and dealing with the old site''s flaws.
