At this car tuning and modification workshop, we converted an unused garage in Jakarta into a car modification workshop using industrial style corrugated metal cladding, exposed concrete, and painted gypsum wall.
Located in Sunter, North Jakarta, this double story space was renovated to be a new branch for Elika Automotive. One of the main goals of this project is to always achieve functionality with minimal impact to the existing space, both physically and visually.
Company Logo Branding Wall
We initially were inspired by a conversation we had with the client about making this space to have an identity. We proposed that a branding wall could help with social media and publication purpose. We agreed to use materials that are typically undervalued in Indonesia, and turn it into something valuable for this project.
After doing some material explorations, we agreed that corrugated metal would fit this purpose, as the sticker on the undulating surface can help attract attention. By keeping our material palette to seamlessly blend with the existing environment, these cars can be the visual attraction in this space.
Corrugated Metal Wall Cladding - Base Detail
The client is interested in blurring the connection between the working area to the waiting area, to trigger conversations between their staffs and costumers.
By creating a seamless adjacency from the working space to the waiting area, the space can help foster interactions.
This way, customers can watch their car being worked on, while interacting with staffs and other customers.
The waiting area is dressed with minimal furniture that is also industrial and neutral in color, to also blend in with the existing garage environment.
To minimize waste and time, we utilized the use of Virtual Reality early in the design process, until coordinating with the selected contractor right before the construction day. We generated a 360 virtual tour of this space: (click the link below)
