The Observatory in Zagreb
// scan of the original drawing, realized in mixed media - felt tip pen, black and white ballpoint pen, collage and pencil on tracing paper + printed background pattern, 210 x 300 mm, 2017

(slight colorations come from different tones of white paper, as well as from ballpoint pens' undertones and mixings of layers - though I like, had to edit it in BW image for the contest)
The Observatory in Zagreb is placed in Priest’s Tower (Popov toranj), in the historical Upper Town, since its foundation and official opening in 1905. With the given space in medieval tower adapted and renovated, and astronomical dome and telescope installed, popularization of astronomy became and remained the core activity till this day. Today it offers popular lectures, astronomy school and public telescope observations of the night sky, integrating non-professional astronomy along the scientific research.
Its specific location and my memory of coming to lectures and observations with my father as a child, fascinated by the universe, are what motivated me to present the Observatory as a public space worthy of knowing.
There is a special warm quality in that place and people that gather there - to quote an overheard comment made by one visitor to his friend: “I told you everyone are great here!”
