Check Before You Choose
— Checking Health Inspection Results
The CBYC app is a design exercise for me to explore AR app design. There wasn't time for a detailed user survey or testing, so the focus of this project is more focused on user interface design. This is also one of my first projects after second year, I hope you can tell the UI improvements from previous ones :)
A "bad" website

The website has lots of problems, and I analyzed it here (dropbox paper). Our design team at UbiLab was given several directions to explore and improve the UX, and I chose to challenge myself to make an AR app. It turned out simpler than expected.

Conclusion
Simplicity doesn't mean less work, even if what I designed for the main feature is just a rating icon on the camera. What's working behind the screens is a GPS for locating the user and a text recognition program to ensure the correct business is displayed, and the icon is displayed on the shop window. i.e. if you move the camera, the rating icon stays on the shop window. The simple AR interface is about decreasing the interaction cost and reduce users' cognitive load, so I removed the "open in Yelp / Google Maps" options as well.
I didn't include a map feature as this app is about the final step before committing, and there are enough map apps that help you discover businesses. It'd be great if public health inspection can collaborate with Yelp / Google Maps so that users can easily check inspection results in these discovery apps.
