This game was made over the course of a month, spanning several individual assignments, for my game methodology class. It is a clicker game about building a pleasant town from the ground up.
The first build of the game was done in one week, this time was spent making the sprites for the houses, fountain, park, build/buy icons, and buttons. In this version of the game the only thing that the player could interact with was the buttons on the side of the screen, and the town didn’t have as much personality. The main feedback that I received after this iteration was that people wanted buildings to net them resources, as well as people to inhabit the city and walk around.
With one more week worth of time I made two new buildings, the woodcutter and the bank, to help the player gain resources faster, I changed the icons to match the pixel style better, added citizens that start walking around the town once houses have started to be made, and lastly I added smaller purchases to decorate the town with things like bushes and trees.
The main feedback I received from this iteration was that players wanted to interact with the citizens, interact with the trees, and add or experience more personal touches with the town.
I choose this game to become my final for the class, and after two more weeks of time, I made the last set of changes to the project.
In response to the feedback I had received from the past iterations I added:
The ability to shake trees for wood!
The ability to interact with the citizens!
A child in the park who waits for the player to help them play on the slide!
Having a break once in a while!
The ability to paint roofs new colors while you're taking a break!
The bank teller can go on vacation!
And finally:
You can pet the dog!
You can pet the dog!
