The Visible Air - Tribute for the Nike Air Max 1

THE STORY OF VISIBLE AIR

The George Pompidou Centre is one of the most famous buildings in Paris. Its architects, Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers made it a distinctive piece of architecture by not covering its built structure with walls, instead they made everything visible, creating the world-famous, groundbreaking cultural centre. Nike's designer Tinker Hatfield happened to be visiting Paris while working on his latest creation for the company. He was admiring the Pompidou Centre when an idea struck him: What if the technology built in the Nike shoes was made visible as well? This is how the Nike Air Max 1 was born in 1987 with its visible air cushioning unit.
