Migrants Matter envisions a European Union that lives up to its claim to be founded on the values of respect for human dignity, freedom, equality, and respect for human rights. They aim to improve the living and working conditions of migrants through awareness-raising campaigns and by lobbying our governments and EU institutions to extend international standards of protection to all migrant workers, specifically by advocating for EU member states to ratify the UN ICMW.
"ILLUSTRATE OUR RIGHTS: A simplified Convention for every migrant, everywhere."The Illustrate Our Rights Campaign intends to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families by launching a booklet that explains the Convention by using simple terms and illustrations.

Article 29: Migrant workers’ children have the right to a name, to birth registration and to a nationality.
Articles 2 & 3: The Convention defines a migrant worker as a person who is to be engaged, is engaged, or has been engaged in a paid activity in a State of which s/he is not a citizen. However, the Convention does not apply to all persons working outside of their State of origin. For example, investors, asylum-seekers, trainees and students are not protected by the Convention. The Convention also protects migrants in particular categories of employment defined as follows:
- Frontier workers: workers who live in a neighbouring State to which they return at least once a week.
- Seasonal workers: workers who work only during a certain part of the year.
- Seafarers: workers who work on board a vessel registered in a State different from the workers’ State of origin.
- Workers on an offshore installation: workers employed on an offshore installation in a State that is different from the workers’ State of origin.
- Itinerant workers: workers who live in one State, but have to travel for a short amount of time to another State for their job.
- Project-tied workers: workers who are allowed into a State of employment for a specific amount of time to work on a specific project.
Articles 72 to 78: The Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families monitors implementation of the Convention. It has 14 members and meets regularly to examine reports submitted by States that are party to the Convention. The Committee can only monitor and evaluate protection of migrant worker rights in those States that have signed and ratified the Convention.
