One of my first Illustrator pieces created in 2015 was a selected piece for an award in Healing through the Arts in 2017. The subject was Haven.
It started when I went to the bookstore. I was drawn into a children’s book by the art on the cover. I was instantly enchanted.
My eyes widened as I saw the radiance that poured out of the book. I had entered the artist's own haven. I could not read because I was transfixed on the what the artist had put onto the pages. I was pulled in, into that world; the artist’s world. The art lifted my heart and soared away with it. The simple art that the artist created seemed to me like some unacquirable heaven.
I’ve never seen that book since, but the memory… the inspiration of that book still lingers. The want for that beautiful scene haunts me. Seeing another artist pour out such a world, his own world, could do nothing other than force me to create something of my own. Create my own “Haven”.
