Who doesn't love a good Nickelback music video? Don't answer that. When it came time to produce the lighting project for my Advanced Video Production course, I knew I wanted to film in the darkroom. The orange lights and deep shadows made everything dark and dramatic. The inevitable noise from shooting at higher ISOs gave it a gritty edge.
My original idea was to shoot a tutorial for the analog photo printing process, but the gritty mood just didn't feel appropriate for a how-to. That's when I decided a music video would be a better fit and fun to create.
That left one more question: What song? Obviously the only right answer was "Photograph" by Nickelback. The melancholy rock song fits the gritty feel of the darkroom aesthetic and made for a perfect narrative in a loose parody of the original video.
