His Worship Naheed Nenshi was re-elected as Mayor of Calgary on Oct. 16, 2017.

Single-handedly, Nenshi beat back the billionaire owners of Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corp. and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman – all of whom threatened to move the Flames hockey team if taxpayer money did not pay for a new arena, the supporters of the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta which mayoral opponent Bill Smith once presided over, the out-to-lunch, incompetent Postmedia-paid Mainstreet poll which the Calgary Herald repeatedly touted as showing Smith with a 17-point lead over Nenshi, and many, if not all, of the developers in Calgary who worked to derail Nenshi's re-election.

Fortunately, 199,122 Calgarians were smart enough to see through the shenanigans, party politics, and special interest groups and re-elected Nenshi to his third term as Calgary mayor with a 15-point margin.

While I don't agree with some of Nenshi's policies (bike lanes, green space taken over for high-density housing, secondary suites), his steadfast stance against taxpayer money for a new arena, his outspoken support for Energy East, and his undoubted intelligence won my vote.

Long live the Mayor!
