Weekend Magazine
BRIEF
This project consisted on creating an editorial magazine for gentlemen. The objective of this editorial work is to make a Sunday magazine (such as the New York Times) that comes with the newspaper, but that can also be sold by it’s own during the week. The main target for this magazine is a sophisticated man. He is in the ages between 29 and 49 years old. He’s job is in the business area and has a salary of 2800$ a month approximately. He is a cultured man with various interests such as travelling, music, food, art exhibits, restaurants and what is happening around the world.
PROBLEM AND SOLUTION
The magazine itself contains a table of contents, the editor’s letter, a section, a main feature, a photographic feature and some publicity. The feature story is a feminist article about women around the world that are changing our society everyday, working very hard. It is kind of ironic and the point of doing a feminist article on a men’s magazine. Even though it is targeted for men, feminism is for everybody, and men should be part of it and also be informed; the photographic feature follows the white trash/redneck kind of lifestyle through a composition of photos; and on the other hand, the section does a more conventional theme such as traveling, but the destination is not a common one like Cancún or París, it is Iceland, the land of volcanos and the unknown. It’s a very exotic place and also very fitting for a cultured man who likes to try new things and also can exercise through excursions and eat well. The logo of this magazine works in two different ways, that varies during the weeks, it can be seen as in the cover “WD” or the other way, vertically. This way it creates a rhythm and makes it interesting also for the buyers.Lastly, in the contents area, there is the publicity. The ads that I’ve used are mainly targeted for men. This includes men’s fashion, men’s perfume, men’s cars (expensive ones), men’s watches, etc.
The things to consider during this project were the paragraph style (This step stands for the size and weight of the font that you’re going to use, the line spacing, the kerning , the hyphenate, the justification, etc); and the typographies that were used (usually sticking to 2 or 3).
