STUDENT MENTOR AWARDS | FALMOUTH UNIVERSITY
During my final year at University I was commissioned by the university's Mentor scheme to design, manufacture and present a series of 10 awards that were given to staff and students who had shown real commitment over the course of the year toward the development and support of students across all 3 year groups. This project spanned over 3 months.
I began by developing some CAD designs using Fusion 360, an extremely useful tool in creating detailed models quickly, as well as rendering them.
The design is made up of a locally sourced hardwood for the front & back faces. The centre is a composite material that myself and fellow student developed, which is essentially a seaweed & bio-resin composite. This resembled Falmouths connection to the sea and resembled the town as a whole.
The hardwood was CNC milled out and later laser engraved with the team's names and what they had excelled in this year. And the seaweed composite was cast in a mold and later set into the hardwood.
This resulted in a fantastic night at the award ceremony. I was given the honour of presenting the awards to the university and to those who had earnt them this year!

Massive thank you to the University for giving me the chance to work on this project in my final year!
