ilmatar typeface

 

ilmatar is experimental typeface I designed in autumn 2015. It contains the nordic alphabet. I was inspired by runes and nordic mytology when drawing it.

 

In Kalevala Ilmatar is spirit of the air. She was impregnated by the sea and wind and became the mother of Väinämöinen. I decided to honor her when naming my font since for it to work letters need a whole lot of air between them.
