A series of books about Film Festivals

This project is my final work in High School Print and Media Industry. Theme of qualifying work: the design and layout of complex publications History of Сinema. As well as the creation of four design layouts for books in other Film Festivals (Locarno International Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, Berlinale, Cannes Film Festival). The main project objective is to redefine the image of modern books and ways of presenting information in the selected area.

In selecting the theme of the graduation project, I was interested to rethink the position of books in the modern world. So I've chosen the theme History of Сinema and produced a study on its development, one measure of which was the changing characteristics of the films entering film festivals and, as a consequence, change the image of the festivals over time. To convey this, it was necessary to find a suitable form, so the concept of Book as Art-object reflects the modern perception of the movie, and also considers the changing attitudes to the paper book as such.

Sundance film festival

All books in the series laid down its own concept, which reflects the image of the Film Festval. The main book I chose Sundance, Festival of Independent Cinema, the main difference which can be called the denial a conservative approach to incoming. Therefore, the presentation of the material was selected based on a term used in postmodernism (Reese (FR. rhizome "rhizome") is one of the key concepts of the philosophy of structuralism and post-modernism, introduced by Gilles Deleuze and F. Guattari in the eponymous book in 1976. Rhizome needs to withstand constant linear structures (as being and thinking), which, in their opinion, typical of the classical European culture). All information growing out of the middle, which is also similar to the opportunities in the movie to show the story in a nonlinear fashion. From 2017, we come to the beginning of the birth of the film festival (in 1985) and again go back to 2017.
