Visual identity of Czech city of Liberec
(competition, 2016)

Design of visual identity od Czech city of Liberec made to comepetition in 2016.

The city of Liberec is characterized by three significant landmarks: the town hall, the transmission tower on Mount Ještěd and the mountains surrounding the city itself. Their common denominator is height and sharpness. The height motif is the basic principle of the proposed logo and determined its shape and arrangement.

The city's past is closely connected, among other things, with textile production. The motif of the fabric is reflected in the texture composed of the logo symbols, which is used when applied to individual products. It can also symbolize the ridge of the mountains.

Another motive that the logo should express is the growth and development of the city, dynamism, movement and positivity. The motive of movement can be associated with a large number of sports activities represented in the city. In addition, the logo can resemble a roof or a house, the basic unit forming the city and also the waves coming from the transmitter on Ještěd.

The greater number of motifs associated with the city, which can be derived from the logo, is proof of the effort to stimulate the imagination of everyone who encounters the logo, so that they can personalize it and remember it better.

The color of the logotype came from the shade of the steel blue-gray color of the transmitter on Ještěd, the sky over the mountains and the snow covering their ridges. It also resembles the color of the Redern family emblem, which is contained in the city emblem.

When applied to a canvas bag, poster and flyer, a texture based on the logo symbol is used to facilitate the unambiguous recognition of each product and its assignability to the city. In the case of a bag or flyer, this texture increases in one or two places. These ridges can symbolize the Ještěd mountain and the Liberec town hall. But they can also remind everyone of mountain peaks.

In the case of the bag, the texture motif is supplemented by the distinctive name of the city, which is purposefully placed in the foreground.
